To share our love for cinema as part of Japan's ongoing #savethecinema #映画リレー and #minitheatreaid campaign, I was challenged by my dear friend, Edmund Yeo
Each day I will nominate 3 new people to take the challenge (maybe not :P) . 7 days, 7 movies. Explanation is optional.
Okie, my country just announce our Movement Control Order has expended another 2 weeks until 12 May. Let's continue for my social media life....
Today I will goes for something non live action film. Ghost In The Shell (1995); Directed by Mamoru Oshii Yup! Not directed by Rupert Sanders nor acted by Scarlett Johansson. Is an ANIME and was the ancestor of many of modern sci-fi films (included The Matrix Trilogy) . Although it was also adapted from the same name manga (comic) by Masamune Shirow, but Mamoru Oshii successfully present it into the new visual of the future world. Since I am anime fans from very young age started with Macross, but actually Ghost In The Shell was the one bring me into the real sci-fi film and also some people labeled it kind of "artsy" film as well (I believe some of people enjoy the Matrix style and will consider GIST is art film).
The making of cyborg at the opening, the montage of futuristic city that based on Hong Kong 80's set come with music "謡II - Ghost City" that composed by Kenji Kawai still my best segments of most of the films I watched.
Ambiguous relationship between Batou and Major Kusanagi, the concept of human, AI, evolution, the doubtful of Motoko about "ghost" and self-identity etc, all these elements are interesting to discover from the film.
About the future world set that look like 80's Hong Kong I won't said GIST is the first one rather than Blade Runner, but because of I only watched Blade Runner after GIST, so my brain already full with this anime.
I forgot how many times that I repeated watched this film (not the remake) since from the first time, yet I still won't feel boring to rewatch it again. Although I won't wish to comment any of Ghost in the Shell Live Action, but I still want to mentioned that I kind of bit disappointed on it (I still enjoyed watching Scarlett & our Malaysian good musician & actor Pete Teo in that fim) , perhaps it because this anime was too good to be adapted.
Bonus! This is Pete Teo, great musician & actor in Malaysian that appeared in Ghost in the Shell (2017)
